Getting Moss Off Shingle Roof

A homemade cleaner of one part liquid chlorine bleach to one part of water can also be effective in removing and killing moss that clings to the roof tiles.

Then use either a product specifically designed as a roof shingle cleaner or a deck cleaner. Watch out this is slippery stuff. That way whenever it rains some of the metal molecules will wash down the roof and kill any algae trying to regain a foothold on your shingles. Carefully place a ladder near the area of moss growth and don slip resistant shoes old clothes rubber gloves and eye.

Before applying a moss remover cleaner use a scrub brush 3 15 the home depot or a long handled soft bristle brush to gently scrape or pluck moss from the roof shingles or tiles. Work on one small section at a time which allows you better control of the brush and your scrubbing motions. Use the tool to gently lift away matted moss that has gathered on the flat sections of the shingles. But only use cleaners that have no bleach in them the non bleach restorers for decks work well.

Stop roof algae from coming back. You can try brushing off algae and moss with a brush or broom with medium stiff bristles but don t scrub too hard. To get rid of moss first carefully scrape off any thick moss without scraping hard on the shingles. Don t be tempted to rush getting the moss off faster by having someone power wash your roof or scrub in the bleach solution or brush or scrape off the moss even though you may find advice on.

2 slide sacrificial zinc strip underneath the loosened shingles.
